Unity

Unity

While speaking to His Father, Jesus prayed, "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me" (John 17:21).  The fact that Jesus prayed for religious unity proves that it is possible!  Everyone that believes in Christ can walk together in unity!  How?

Unity is based upon agreement (Amos 3:3) and is associated with expressions of love, peace, and harmony.  God has given us His word, the Bible, as His pattern, or blueprint, by which to model His church.  Using only this blueprint will result in only one standard in which all of His believers can stand unified because this is the only blueprint authorized & given by God.  Following any other blueprint(s) will result in confusion & division.  This confusion & division is not unity but merely a union of ideas based upon the opinions & trending fads of men instead of God's will.  This is seen throughout the religious world around us today.  However, scripture states that God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33) and that His followers are not to be religiously divided, teaching & practicing the philosophies of men, but to be unified completely in mind & in judgment around the word of God (1 Corinthians 1:10-13).  Therefore, the only way to achieve the unity God desires is to agree on God's word as the only standard upon which to model His church.  We can do this by speaking where the Bible speaks and remaining silent where the Bible is silent.
